betty jean entered our world~August 25, 2009

that day started off by taking macy on a walk, and then getting ready with the intention of going to work. instead, i found myself in lake oswego getting one of my bracelets cleaned. i went next door to sur la table to use their restroom.... while i was walking back to my car...my water broke. i drove home without even calling kevin; nervous that it was not the onset of labor rather something else crazy that happens to your body while pregnant. i didn't want to sound the alarm if it turned out to be nothing. i phoned my doctor and she told me to go the labor and delivery floor at the hospital. repeatedly i asked, "are you sure, really, it might be something else?" after three more phone calls to the doctor i realized...what else could it have been? i then phoned kevin and he came home, storming in like a madman. my sister had sent me a text wanting to know if we should get together for dinner. i responded, "uhm, probably not tonight, i think my water just broke."
i remember having this calm come over me, scared, but smiling in silence.....our drive to the hospital was memorable, kevin insisting that i eat a luna bar, taking the longest route possible, all the while i am laughing. i think he was more nervous than me.
we arrived to the hospital around 4:30 pm on the 24th of August. I did not progress naturally so with hesitation, they started me on pitocin. i was feeling just great and then all of a sudden the contractions hit me hard. the ease of the epidural allowed me to rest throughout the night....each time the nurse came in to check on me i thought to myself, "please don't tell me it is time to push...i am not ready." i was dying to meet our baby, but terrified of the whole idea of pushing a human out of me, i mean, having never done it before, the thought is pretty humbling.
